Who are you?

I am Antonin Kenens, the human being who built this website (using Claude) and wrote this text (using my brain). If you don’t have time you can use the skip button or set the answer speed to “instant”. I am a backend software engineer with over 5 years of work experience in international technical positions. I contributed to high-performance open-source numerical optimization libraries, co-organized a regional cybersecurity workshop securing USD 250K in seed funding, and led the development of a Python ETL library to process millions of invoices. I am skilled in communication with multicultural teams (60+ nationalities) and advocacy for technical subjects practiced during 8 international missions and workshops. I am passionate about creating a world in which digital is an empowering force for people and the planet, and about ethical considerations surrounding the usage of Artificial Intelligence.

Where have you worked?

Since April 2025, I have been working for New Energy, a fintech startup based in France as a Backend Software Engineer. I worked remotely from Türkiye. I am focused on the development, optimization and maintenance of a Python library that processes and extracts content of PDF energy invoices. The architecture initally worked on AWS Lambda but we recently switched our infrastructure to Outscale, a certified “SecNumCloud” cloud provider, so the system works now as a worker on demand.

From May 2023 to March 2025, I worked as Data and Cybersecurity consultant at UNDP in Istanbul, Türkiye. My main task was to make an analysis of the state of cybersecurity governance in the Western Balkans, Geogria and Moldova. I co-organized and facilitated a few workshops on the topic. Since I was very interested in the topic of AI, I also got involved in a few tasks on that topic, and contributed among other things to the Human Development Report 2025: People and possiblities in the age of AI.

From January 2021 to December 2022, I worked as a Research Assistant on Applied Mathematics and AI. I mainly developed the Julia package BundleAdjustmentModels.jl with its documentation, a tutorial, comprehensive tests, CI integration, and semantic-versioning. I contributed to the JuliaSmoothOptimizers library, built code to run on GPU using CUDA, experimented the usage of mixed precision arithmetic (FP32 and FP16), and ran my tests on a 24-node linux computer cluster.

I also worked as Opreations Research Algorithms Teacher’s assistant for a semester, as Software Engineer Intern for 2 months and Project Management Intern for 8 months.

What did you study?

I went through the classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles in Maths and Physics and followed up with a master’s in software engineering in ENSEEIHT Engineering School, in Toulouse, France. Then I completed another mater’s degree in applied mathematics and AI in Polytechnique Montreal, in Montreal, Canada.

What tech are you familiar with?

Regarding software languages, I mainly code in Python, SQL, but have also coded in Julia for some time. I have touched on many languages: Java, C/C++, HTML/CSS, JS/TS, Matlab, CLI/Shell, and some more obscure like Ada or Caml. I have worked with the AWS cloud stack (EC2, S3, Lambda), Docker, GitHub Actions, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, Linux(Debian, Ubuntu), LLMs APIs, and LaTeX.

I am fluent in French and English, have practiced German for 13 years but have not spoken it for some time, and I speak reasnoably well in Turkish as I have taken classes and learnt it for 2 years. I have also been taking Spanish classes for more than a year.

What do you do outside software engineering?

I enjoy activities where I have direct contact with people. I supervised sports and social events in university in 2021, volunteered for food distribution weekly for around 3 years in total in France and Canada, and have been President of the Sustainable Development Office of my engineerin school from 2019 to 2020. I have also been swimming at competitive level since I am 6 years old, and picked up powerlifting in 2018 but I stopped because of knee injuries in 2024.
